What is Blood Pressure?

Mercury blood pressure monitors are relatively accurate but require the use of a stethoscope and pose a mercury pollution problem. Therefore, electronic blood pressure monitors are mainly used for home use. There are primarily two types of home electronic blood pressure monitors based on their measurement method: arm-type and wrist-type. Wrist type BP monitors are not suitable for diabetics, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension patients with blood circulation disorders. This is because diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia can accelerate arterial sclerosis, which can cause significant differences between wrist and upper arm blood pressure measurements. For such patients and the elderly, an arm home blood pressure monitor is recommended.


However, wrist type BP monitors are very suitable for middle-aged people to measure blood pressure. The convenience and portability of BP monitor for wrist allow them to monitor their health anytime and anywhere, whether at home, during work breaks, or traveling. The easy operation of wrist type BP monitors means that middle-aged people can obtain accurate blood pressure readings quickly with just a few simple steps, without needing complex procedures or professional guidance. This is significant for daily health management, timely detection of abnormal blood pressure, and prevention of related diseases. Additionally, the design of wrist type BP monitors fits the wrist comfortably, does not interfere with daily life, and truly combines convenience with accuracy.


Operating Procedure for Measuring Blood Pressure with a Wrist Type BP Monitor


First, make sure the wrist type BP monitor is correctly worn on the wrist, usually recommended to be worn on the wrist of the non-dominant hand, with the strap moderately tight—not too tight to cause discomfort nor too loose to affect the measurement results. Next, turn on the blood pressure monitor's switch; some models start measuring automatically, while others may require manually pressing the start button. During measurement, try to stay relaxed, keep the arm naturally hanging down with the palm facing up, avoid talking or moving to ensure measurement accuracy. The blood pressure monitor will automatically sense the pressure of the wrist artery and calculate the blood pressure values, including systolic and diastolic pressures, through the built-in intelligent algorithm, usually completing the entire measurement process within a few seconds. After the measurement is complete, the blood pressure monitor's screen will display the results, and some models may also provide voice announcements to facilitate users in reading and recording the results.
